John Scott enjoying time as NHL All-Star captain
There are some big changes at this year’s NHL All-Star Game, which is set to kick off at 5 p.m. ET on Sunday night at Bridgestone Arena. Each game will feature a 3-on-3 format and last 20 minutes, with the teams switching ends at the 10-minute mark of the game.
With some lackluster performances and dwindling television ratings, the NHL All-Star game had become a hum-drum affair in recent seasons. Overtime periods in the regular season use this style, and it’s proven to be fan-friendly while producing more scoring chances. “I don’t know if I expected too much hitting in the All-Star Game let alone three-on-three in the All-Star Game”. In the second half of the game, Corey Perry beat Ben Bishop for the only goal of the game as the Pacific won 1-0. “It’s going to be entertaining for everyone watching and for the players themselves, since it’s not a real game”.
“It’s going to be fun, I think”, said Erik Karlsson of the Ottawa Senators.
Not bad for someone who has appeared in just 11 National Hockey League games this season and has yet to touch the ice for the Canadiens after being acquired via trade at the new year. John Scott is the feel-good story of the weekend.
All eyes will be on how Pacific Division captain John Scott, a 6-8, 260-pounder who initially was elected by fans as a joke candidate, handles all that open ice – and how fans greet him.
The 33-year-old Canadian left wing, an unlikely write-in All-Star voted to the event by fans thanks largely to an internet campaign, on Sunday scored twice and was hoisted onto the shoulders of his superstar teammates after helping the Pacific division win the $1 million top prize up for grabs. They do exist within the NCAA, as basketball has the College All-Star Game, which is part of the Final Four weekend.
“We just had a quick talk because I think he was anxious about me not feeling welcome here and me just kind of being uncomfortable with this whole situation”, Scott said.
“I don’t think we really cared who scored”, Burns told NBCSN’s Pierre McGuire during the game. Scott’s wife, Danielle, is pregnant with twins due within the next two weeks, and they will be heading to MI during the American Hockey League’s All-Star break.
John Scott didn’t belong at the All-Star Game, until he did.
“This happened many, many months ago”, Bettman said. “I’ve been on a few teams in this League (six, not counting Montreal), and just to know you have those bonds with those guys; that means more than most”. “But Ryan is a great player, and I have a lot of respect for him”.
NHL journeyman enforcer John Scott, beloved by players and fans but unwanted by league officials, had the last laugh by taking Most Valuable Player honors at the NHL All-Star Game. He s a little bit of a (crap) disturber, Pav is.
“It’s obviously an anomaly”, Scott said.
He will compete in Saturday’s hardest shot competition.
