John Scott takes shot at National Hockey League before playing in All-Star game
Now we’ve all had that shining moment at one point or another in our lives, this was supposed to be that moment for John Scott and unfortunately it was almost ripped away from him. But not before he wrote an essay posted by The Players’ Tribune Thursday in which he accused the National Hockey League of attempting to bully him into not playing.
Caps first-line center Nicklas Backstrom is set to play in his first All-Star Game after years of being an National Hockey League afterthought. I sat down with (NHL commissioner) Gary (Bettman) and we had a quick chat. “For him to be here is so cool“, he said. “It could be a good thing”.
Jagr said when you are old, you “do everything just to survive the game”.
And I’m one of them.
Scott said he was glad to hear that from Bettman because there was a time he really wasn’t sure the league felt that way. “But he put those thoughts to rest”.
The Flyers’ Claude Giroux said he plans to ask Scott for a signed stick. He plays a role that no one wants to do. “My wife and I had to move all across the country, year after year”.
“I think he was anxious about me not feeling welcome here and me just kind of being uncomfortable in this whole situation”, Scott said. I think people do empathize with that.
“I’m not a goon”.
Nashville defenseman Shea Weber had a shot clocked at 108.5 miles per hour a year ago and will defend his title against Florida’s Aaron Ekblad, Winnipeg’s Dustin Byfuglien, Pittsburgh’s Evgeni Malkin, Dallas’ Tyler Seguin, Tampa Bay’s Steven Stamkos, Montreal’s P.K. Subban and Pacific Division captain John Scott.
I’ve seen my name in the news, on the press release, on the official rosters.
Anyway, when Scott takes the ice on Sunday, he’ll be cheered on by more people than he can imagine.
That aside, Scott has become the star of the All-Stars – at least off the ice.
Scott’s path to the National Hockey League is something that was not lost on the rest of the All-Stars, even those who may have preferred a beach in the Bahamas instead of Nashville.
Backstrom is only nine years into his career, but talk of the Hall of Fame is not far-fetched considering Ovechkin’s the fifth-fastest player to 500 goals and that he did it alongside Backstrom. Those two players were high draft picks and their star status was nearly preordained. Joe Pavelski and Brent Burns are the Sharks’ representatives.
For Josi, the opportunity to play in his first All-Star Game is exciting enough.
That’s more than can be said for the league. It was kind of odd. This really pisses me off. I’m a fan of enforcers.
This will make for some odd comparisons, like that he’ll have played in as many, if not more, All-Star Games than the following players.
If they dont want certain players here, they shouldnt let the fans vote, Benn said. “They will take it for what it is”, Scott said.
“I think the players, as much as they may want to have that break, still feel they enjoy coming”.
When’s the last time the Pro Bowl did some innovative other than the draft?
Scott will participate in the Skills Competition tomorrow, in the hardest shot competition.
It means a lot to my family.
Because like all Cinderellas, Scott’s glass slipper will fall off on Sunday at the stroke of midnight, and he will head back to a remote outpost as one of hockey’s last skating dinosaurs.
Then he added: “It’s definitely unusual”. “You go in the locker room everyone’s got the National Hockey League logo on their helmet”.
Saturday’s NHL Skills Competition is always entertaining, while the creation of a new four-team 3-on-3 tournament is an exciting new innovation, with the winning team splitting prize money. It’s neat, though. I’m not used to this.
“I’m going to enjoy it while I’m here”, he said, “and then go back to the real world”.
