John Stamos Admits He Wanted The Olsen Twins Fired From ‘Full House’
The actor appeared on a panel at the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour Wednesday, and gave a brief update on his other highly anticipated sitcom project. The story has been floating around for a while, but today at the TCAs, Stamos himself eliminated any doubt by telling Entertainment Weekly: He’ll fire a baby. I’m so excited to bring it back, doing it at Netflix.
He did admit that he found “the humor” behind the whole thing – especially the off-Broadway show. There’s also Paget Brewster, who is in her mid-40s and plays Stamos’ better half of sorts, Sara. He actually just admitted he didn’t want them on the show. “I was actively looking for a show, but something a little edgier”.
And third, yes, I plan to continue using the photo of 1980s Stamos sittin’ sidesaddle on a motorcycle in a parking lot every time I write about him.
Grandfathered – like Full House – features a set of twin girls playing his granddaughter, with the actor joking that if he can’t have children, he’ll “cast them”.
“‘He said, ‘Why don’t you do what you?”, said the actor about that conversation, adding that his character is, “like a George Clooney before he turned against everything he believed in” and got married. Stamos deadpanned. “Clearly, that’s something that’s missing from [my character] Jimmy’s life, and it’s something that I still hope to achieve someday”.
“Granfathered” creator Daniel Chun (“The Simpsons”, “The Office“, “Happy Endings”) created the coming-of-age-at-any-age narrative and Stamos, along with “Galavant’s” Dan Fogelman and Chris Koch, serve as executive producers.
And at least one element of the Lifetime movie, hinted at in its trailer, is true: Stamos did indeed try to fire Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen, who played Michelle Tanner on Full House.
Earlier in the panel, Stamos quipped that he whispers to the crying kids acting on Grandfathered, “That I made them a lot of money”. And yes, Stamos will be returning to that show for another guest shot.
