John Terry: I will never play for another Premier League club
Although Cech struggled for game time last term after Thibaut Courtois became Jose Mourinho’s number one, he is still considered to be one of the best goalkeepers in England and has made 333 appearances in the Premier League after joining the Blues from Rennes in 2004.
The Chelsea captain agreed a 12-month contract extension in March, but he is setting his sights on another deal.
Terry, who plays against Barcelona in Washington on Tuesday night, said: “I am 35 at Christmas”.
“Every summer I work more or less every day to give myself the best chance”. No doubt, people like me and Steven want to play, of course.
“If I then felt Chelsea were going to release me or thought I had nothing else to give – but still thought I could play – then I would want to continue to play”.
Many observers have praised his move, citing the Gunners’ decision to bring him in as a real step in the right direction in terms of sustaining a genuine Premier League title challenge.
Joining Gerrard and Lampard in Major League Soccer would certainly be a possibility for Terry, but it has been clear during Chelsea’s tour of North America that he still believes he can play a huge part for Jose Mourinho.
“I have to say that winning the FA Cup is a great thing for the confidence of the team, and everyone involved with Arsenal Football Club, ‘ Cech told the Gunners” official matchday programme.
“I am not taking anything for granted”. But now, 11 years on, I know pretty much every ground in the Premier League and know what to expect which comes to my advantage. I will give him everything. “It’s going to be very tough and not just us against the top sides”.
“Our rivals will come back a lot hungrier, ready and believing they can catch us and even overtake us”.
