John Wick VR shooter coming in 2016
Now Lionsgate and Starbreeze Studios have announced a partnership to bring a virtual reality first-person shooter based on John Wick to head-mounted displays.
“In addition, Starbreeze will further integrate the John Wick storyline into its wildly popular Payday game, which has over nine million players worldwide, facilitating cross-promotion and integration of the two games”, Starbreeze stated in the official press announcement. The VR game made after Keanu Reeves’ movie will surely promote the films, the franchise, and even the different virtual reality platforms.
John Wick stars Reeves as retired hitman who reawakens his inner demon to unleash all hell on a gang of mobsters who murdered his puppy, a final gift from his late wife. There are no details yet on when the John Wick VR game would be hitting the market, but it seems likely that the date would be close to the release of the next film.
“Lionsgate has been a great partner on John Wick because the studio not only believes in traditional storytelling but also recognizes the value of extending its movies beyond the screen and involving fans in new ways to explore the characters and stories”, said film producer and Thunder Road Pictures CEO Basil Iwanyk, in a statement. But it will serve as a promotional tool before that: a demo of the game will be part of the upcoming HTC Vive World Tour, which will showcase the hardware at events in North America and Europe.
“John Wick” was a box office success in 2014. The Lionsgate and Summit brands remain synonymous with original, daring, quality entertainment in markets around the world.
