Johnny Manziel back as Browns starter after benching
“The season has been tough, I mean you’re coming off a seven and nine season”. That song is not being sung on the second floor of Browns headquarters in Berea.
The Browns are reportedly going to start Johnny Manziel this week, but head coach Mike Pettine said on Monday that he would wait until Tuesday to announce his decision. “That’s not the case”, Pettine said. “We have to make sure that we support our quarterback”. It is hard to fix something when you haven’t pinpointed it exactly.
“Now it depends on how those games go”, he said.
Listen, I am big on character.
So, is the building unified? I was not a Johnny Manziel fan when he was flashing the “Money” signs during his time at Texas A&M and I would be a liar if I said I was rooting for him to succeed in the NFL.
“I can’t sit here and say, ‘Absolutely, we are all on board 100 percent.’ No, that is not reality”. “I got hit on the top of the head and kind of just got my head compressed into my neck”. If you take away his 1999 run to the Super Bowl where they lost to the current franchise he directs, Fisher has a 2-4 postseason record. That’s what losing does to you. I just know the nature of that quarterback room – the way they hold each other accountable and how Kevin runs it and Flip is in there a lot, too – those guys work and prepare and help each other. “It’s part of it, but we have to make sure that we stay very clear-headed with it”. Davis did not have a great game, but with so many problems within the Browns organization, including the multiple injuries at the wide receiver position, Davis can not be at fault for their blow out loss yesterday.
The Browns (2-10) were throttled 37-3 on Sunday by the Cincinnati Bengals. “When you are paid to be successful, when you are paid to win in a bottom line business and we are not, of course, there is going to be tension”. That game may turn out to be the last straw. “I just have to continue to do what I’m doing”.
“Everyone’s reason or everyone’s motive is a little different”.
Then it goes to Mike Pettine, who must see the writing on the wall. “Yeah we can do it”, said Shaw. “For now, what is he?”
Come to think of it, perhaps getting cut by the Browns and escaping the misery wouldn’t be such a bad thing. He tried playing against the Bengals on Sunday but aggravated the injury on the first series, Rookie Cameron Erving replaced him. Mangini will undoubtedly want to have a good showing against the team that dumped him in 2010 after only two seasons.
Last week’s loss to the Ravens was one thing, but Sunday’s lost to the Bengals was the nail in the coffin. Center Alex Mack can opt out of his contract.
“This”, linebacker Paul Kruger said, “was a bad game”.
GREEN DAY: With 128 yards receiving, Green moved over 1,000 yards for the fifth straight year, joining Randy Moss as the only players to eclipse 1,000 in each of their first five seasons.
Mack repeatedly has declined to discuss his plans beyond this season.
