Johnson out at Tulane
Tulane Green Wave head coach Curtis Johnson against the UCF Knights during the second quarter of a game at Yulman Stadium.
Tulane is also in the process of looking for a replacement for athletic director Rick Dickson, who announced he would step down next year.
Notes: The Green Wave rolled off 530 yards of total offense, the most in the past two years.
Tulane is set to make a decision on hiring a new athletics director next week- Dickson has announced he will retire – and a coaching search will be the immediate priority for the new athletics director, much like the situation at Central Florida.
“He’s a great coach”, Monroe said. The Green Wave had one winning season under Johnson in four seasons, which came in 2013 when they finished 7-6 and lost to Louisiana-Lafayette in the New Orleans Bowl. Both of those seasons were spent in Conference USA.
Johnson has a 15-34 record in four seasons as the Green Wave’s coach.
Fourteen seconds later, Tulsa’s Suits intercepted a Joseph pass and went 28 yards for a touchdown and a 38-34 Hurricane lead with 6:31 remaining in the game.
Tulane quarterback Jordy Joseph said the coaching staff kept everything as normal last week even those Johnson said post game that “with all the stuff (going on), I was shocked” the Green Wave played so well. “If we play football the way that we are supposed to play, we’re a pretty good team, so we just have to go out and do that”. Everything is football first.
