Joint practice ends after Redskins, Texans start brawling
Gruden said he will reconsider “going three straight days in pads” against another team for joint practices in the future.
“He either needs to get his weight up or get out of the way”, Hall said of Johnson.
The 2015 edition of “Hard Knocks” covers the training camp and the preseason schedule of the Houston Texans.
During Saturday’s practice, multiple fights broke out. Redskins wide receiver Andre Roberts and tight end Niles Paul objected and jumped in. Garcon squared off with Texans linebacker Bernardrick McKinney, among many others.
Former UVa offensive lineman Morgan Moses is getting a chance to earn a starting spot on the Redskins offensive line.
“Whatever they were doing on that side, they were doing on this side”, Hayward said. To have another team coming in, you can see how good you are or how bad you are. They had a rough day yesterday so they wanted to try to set the tone, but thats not going to happen here..
In another defensive sequence, Adams made his presence felt again. His teammates, however, disagreed saying the fights were not planned. Washington did make a catch during the ones’ Move the Chains team drill, one of the only catches during that period. We don’t want to lose him because he punched a guy in the helmet or something. He lasered one to Strong, hitting him between the one and the one for a much needed end to the goal line drill. That wasn’t the case.
Belichick says consistently going deep in the playoffs means players have less recovery time and that leads to more players missing time in training camp.
Gruden added that Washington “missed an opportunity to get better today against a good team” and he won’t reconsider partaking in future joint practices because of the fighting.
J.J. Watt had just finished a 2 1/2-hour practice when he headed for the ball toss machine.
“I think against New England last year, we were probably two days and then we went in shorts the day before a game”, Gruden said. He let his team know that in a real game suspensions would have resulted.
Texans coach Bill O’Brien didn’t sound very sick about it. There were no further incidents.
The coaches blamed the buildup of tensions over three days of practicing on the outbursts. “I appreciate [the Texans] coming here”.
I still think the plan is for Scherff to start the season at right tackle but the Redskins have been working him in at guard also. “Unfortunately, we didn’t get it done”. It escalated quickly with players from both teams joining the melee. Texans players left shoulder to shoulder in a sign of solidarity. “He brings it on every play, even if it’s practice”. “When I got back and I went off to train and stuff like that, all I really had to focus on was gaining that confidence in my foot”. That may be especially true for the Washington Redskins, who’ve gone 7-25 over the past two seasons.
