Jokes about New York mayor abound at annual charity dinner
Jokes about NY City Mayor Bill de Blasio’s habitual lateness and ongoing feud with Gov. Andrew Cuomo have taken center stage at an annual charity dinner.
It’s known for its humor, often at the expense of the politicians that attend.
Mayor Bill de Blasio today confessed his much-mocked planned presidential candidates forum in Iowa was a failure-a day after his left-leaning nonprofit claimed it was called off because it had been such a success.
Mayor de Blasio had a secret meeting Tuesday with minority real-estate developers and told them he’s considering rewriting city contracts to give an advantage to projects that use minority firms.
It even managed to bring de Blasio and Cuomo close for a brief moment, with the pair shaking hands at one point.
Bloomberg also made a joke about de Blasio’s recent travels outside the city to support a few of his fellow Democrats in other states, saying; ‘It’s great to see Mayor de Blasio actually in NY City tonight. “Hamilton and Burr. Katy Perry and Taylor Swift”, Bloomberg said.
The press conference was derailed when a reporter from CBS2 showed Commissioner Bratton and Mayor de Blasio a picture of a homeless woman with an assortment of pets panhandling at Broadway and West 68th Street on Saturday night. “But the state legislature wasn’t in session”, Bloomberg said.
Had the judge who released Tyrone “Peanut” Howard been allowed to look at Howard’s long rap sheet of 23 arrests, including the shooting of an 11-year-old, he never would have released him to a drug diversion program, de Blasio told host John Catsimatidis.
Bloomberg described the pair as an old, married couple.
The city will form a new Department of Veterans’ Services after approval from the Council on Tuesday.
But he complained the money set aside to aid minority firms was a pittance in New York’s expensive construction market.
Organizers say the dinner, held at the swank Waldorf Astoria, raised $2.6 million.
