Jolie in early talks for ‘Murder on the Orient Express’ remake
Are you excited for a new Murder on the Orient Express movie? Branagh, Ridley Scott, Simon Kinberg and Mark Gordon will be producing. The project has been in the works since 2013, when it was being developed as a remake of the 1974 Sidney Lumet adaptation, starring a whole heap of famous people including Lauren Bacall, Ingrid Bergman, and Sean Connery. It will be executive produced by James Prichard and Hilary Strong; Strong brokered the deal for Agatha Christie Ltd. Michael Green (Blade Runner 2) will pen the script, with Steve Asbell overseeing the production for Fox. It would not be surprising if Jolie reprised Bacall’s role of Mrs. Hubbard whose character is an older sophisticated woman who provides plenty of diversion within the classic story. Based on the 1934 novel by Agatha Christie, Murder on the Orient Express unfolds on a train that gets caught in a heavy snowstorm overnight. The film follows Belgian detective Poirot, who is handling the case, in which a number of passengers could potentially be the murderer. We had heard Fox wanted a big-name cast for this one, and Jolie definitely fits the bill.
Shooting will take place in November in London then move to Malta, the Reporter added. Coming up, she’s slated to reprise the role of Maleficent in Disney’s sequel to the 2014 box-office smash. Last year, Jolie directed herself, alongside husband Brad Pitt, in the arthouse relationship drama By the Sea. The film is set for release on November 22, 2017.
