Jon Bon Jovi pays emotional tribute to fall high school football player
“That would be the number one thing I would recommend to a high school wanting to minimize the risk of injuries”. Just five years ago they were in the state championship game.
He sent an email to the school community outlining the decision to forfeit the rest of the season, which effectively bans the school from fielding a team for an additional two years, according to Maine rules governing school sports.
While a few high schools around the country have been dropping their football programs, an official with the Illinois High School Association said he’s seeing no evidence of that here. Only 13 young men tried out.
A spate of tragic fatalities has underscored long-running concerns over safety standards in high school American football, where more players die each year than at any other level of the game.
Several schools have responded by cutting their teams entirely.
“I want to make sure folks know that this had nothing to do with wins and losses, lack of effort on our kids’ part, coaching, or anything but numbers.”
Jon Bon Jovi played one for Evan Murray. In late January 2015, a study – published in the medical journal Neurology – indicated that those players who started playing tackle football before 12-years-old performed worse in cognitive tests, than those who started playing later in life.
“The reason is simple”.
O’Neil cited the sharp variation in the incidence of head trauma in professional versus school football. “I don’t think I’ve seen that with football”.
“As a father, as a father of football players, my heart, my prayers, my thoughts go out to the Murray family”, Bon Jovi said in the video. Parents are concerned that their boys will suffer irreparable damage with repeated hits to the head. The real problem was that fewer than a dozen students wanted to play. CNN reported this summer that new research shows significant concussion incidence in high school soccer, though the figures are roughly half those of football. The church has made video of the funeral available on its website.
