Jon Stewart Makes Final ‘Daily Show’ Emmy Speech, Promises ‘You Will Never
This year a lot of late night shows were bidding farewell after historic runs, but it was Jon Stewart’s Daily Show that beat everyone, winning the Emmy for Outstanding Variety Talk Series.
Also competing against late-night hotshots Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel and John Oliver, the former “Daily Show” host spoke to press after his big win. “Cling on to television for as long as you can”, he said from the stage before noting the lack of craft service and applause in the real world. Now that he’s won, along with two other awards, here are a few reasons why Jon Stewart deserved his win for the Emmy for Outstanding Variety Series.
The Comedy Central staple won for best variety talk series, and Jon Stewart brought his writers onstage to make a speech. They include Viola Davis and Taraji P. Henson, who could become the first non-white victor in the best drama series actress category.
Janney was honored as best supporting actress in a comedy for her role as a dysfunctional parent in “Mom”.
She added, “Oh, no, no, I’m so sorry: Donald Trump said that”.
HBO dominated the Emmys with 43 awards, followed by NBC with 12, Comedy Central and FX Networks with eight awards each, ABC with six and Amazon with five.
“No”, he said. “I would consider getting in a rocket and going to another planet because clearly this one has gone bonkers”, he said.
The 67th annual Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony was hosted by Andy Samberg and held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday. This Emmy win highlights the amount of influence Jon Stewart has had on the television landscape.
Louis-Dreyfus’ “Veep” co-star, Tony Hale, won his second Emmy in the supporting-actor comedy category. Aduba won a guest actress award previous year for her portrayal of “Crazy Eyes” in the series.
“Thank you so very much”, he continued, “you will never have to see me again”. “Inside Amy Schumer” won for best variety sketch series.
