JonBenet Ramsey Family Lawyer Plans to Sue CBS Over Documentary
L. Lin Wood, an Atlanta attorney who said he had successfully sued other media outlets over similar accusations against Burke Ramsey, branded the program as a broadcast riddled with “lies, misrepresentations, distortions and omissions”. “CBS” false and unprofessional attacks on this young man are disgusting and revolting”.
As for Woods’ lawsuit, the network quickly issued a response, stating: “CBS stands by the broadcast and will do so in court”.
According to the Daily Mail, JonBenet was found beaten and strangled in the family’s basement.
No-one has ever been charged, and JonBenet’s parents and old brother Burke have always denied any involvement.
In the special The Case of: JonBenét Ramsey, a group of investigators developed a theory suggesting that Burke accidentally killed his sister on Christmas night in 1996. He has reportedly chose to proceed with the lawsuit due to the CBS special suggesting it had determined what happened with JonBenet – a conclusion which implicates him as the alleged murderer, and suggests that his parents covered up his guilt in order to protect him.
In 2008, the three were officially cleared by prosecutors who said that DNA found on the girl’s underwear didn’t match anyone in the Ramsey household.
CBS explored the unsolved murder in Monday’s documentary, “The Case of: JonBenet Ramsey”.
The Ramsey family have made a decision to take legal action against CBS after the airing of the network’s documentary, “The Case of: JonBenet Ramsey” depicted the family in a negative light. The documentary stated that he did it by hitting her on the head with a heavy flashlight.
Wood also said the CBS’ disclaimer – saying the opinions “represent just some of a number of possible scenarios” – aired at the beginning of the programme was not enough.
Burke Ramsey even appeared on Dr. Phil recently, where the young man smiled and giggled even as he discussed his sister’s gruesome death.
