Jordan Spieth on a roll in the majors going into US Open
Jordan Spieth says he will not be thinking about his disastrous back nine at the Masters when he defends his US Open title this week.
In the last 60 years, only Jack Nicklaus, who did it three times; Woods, who did it twice; and Arnold Palmer have gone at least five consecutive majors with a top-five finish.
He went on: “I feel very confident about my game right now”.
What really got his attention was the 17th hole during a practice round Monday.
“I’m in the process of improving what we’ve been working on the whole year”, he said. The links-styled course built from a sand-and-gravel pit off Puget Sound had only been open for nine years, and no one knew what to expect. “(Now) I don’t think anyone’s going to be in the red come 72 holes.
The toughest test in golf heads to one of the most challenging courses in the world.
“With the wind [Sunday], I would have signed for somewhere around 75 or 76 and shaken everyone’s hand and said, I’m going to go back and have a beer”, Spieth said. Not really. I think that my game has changed and evolved over the years, so it’s good to sort of see it through a fresh pair of eyes this week.
“I look forward to playing probably my last major in my home state”, said Furyk. You just can not hit it in the rough in certain places, and I don’t want to do that. “The biggest thing is, if you’re in trouble just try and minimize mistakes”.
“But to be able to win on a course like this with the conditions the way they are, it would be maybe my biggest accomplishment in the game”.
The world number two received the inevitable question on his stumble at the 12th hole at Augusta and the subsequent consequences but was quick to put that to bed. There’s just not enough time there.
“I did move on”. “That was a huge week for us, especially to win before any of the next majors. If you’re coming off a kind of heartbreaking loss, getting back into contention can be fearful and you’ve just got to push through that fear”.
A year ago at Chambers Bay, Spieth entered the final round tied for the lead with Dustin Johnson, Day and South African Branden Grace. You’ve just got to keep pushing, keep pushing. And because I feel that way, it makes me as confident as I can be….
“Do I think being an Olympian outweighs any significant health threat?”
“Based on what’s come to my knowledge at this point, it seems like it’s going to be an extremely memorable experience”, Spieth told reporters in a press conference. But this is one tournament that is very stressful and I feel like I thrive under stress, and hopefully I can do that this year.

“I really think it’s the hardest golf course we’ve ever played”, Phil Mickelson said.
This week, he will get to watch highlights of his walk off the final green previous year.
Less than 48 hours before the start of the U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club, the world’s No. 1-ranked golfer said, “I’ve never been more stressed in my life than right now”. If we can get ourselves in contention here, I can draw back on Colonial, what happened at the end there.
