Jordy Nelson pledges gift to KSU football program
Green Bay Packers star wide receiver Jordy Nelson is making a financial contribution to the university where he played football from 2003-07.
Want to have the football locker room at your beloved university named after you? The gift will be used as part of the $8 million that has been raised for ongoing renovations to the Bill Snyder Family Stadium.
“We appreciate Jordy and Emily’s loyalty and generosity to K-State Athletics and our goal of providing a World-Class Student-Athlete Experience“, Kansas State athletic director John Currie said in a statement. The $15 million phase will connect the east concourse to the recently renovated Vanier Football Complex, fully enclosing the stadium.
Nelson, a former walk-on at the Kansas State program, has reportedly donated an undisclosed amount to the university, prompting the school to adorn the locker room with his name.
Bill Snyder is where any discussion of the face of Kansas State football begins and ends.
Nelson left his mark on K-State’s football program during his final season, when he set single-year records by piling up 1,606 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns.
“Jordy has never strayed from his value system and thus remains the same caring, committed, loyal, passionate Kansas State person who believes in his program and is giving back”, Snyder, the team’s longtime coach, said in a statement.
Green Bay selected him with the 36th pick in the 2008 NFL Draft, but still spends his down time in Kansas.
Expectations for Kansas State among the national media are low, and understandably so.
