Jose Aldo repeats call for Conor McGregor rematch
It took Conor McGregor (19-2-0, 7-0 UFC) just 13 seconds to knock out Jose Aldo (25-2-0, 7-1 UFC) and take the UFC featherweight championship away from the Brazilian on Saturday night at UFC 194 in Las Vegas.
After his Featherweight title win at the weekend over Jose Aldo, Conor McGregor proclaimed to be the best pound-for-pound in the UFC. “Times are good. The options are there”, he added.
The Irish fighter clearly knew his way with words and also in the ring. That was never more evident than when he offered to step in on short notice and fight Dustin Poirier in the main event at UFC Dublin before his fight against Aldo.
In the post-fight press conference, McGregor was asked about his accurate prediction of how the fight would pan out.
The moments leading up to the fight were tense as both fighters came into the ring ready for an epic battle. “If not, then we do Frankie Edgar, and José Aldo would fight somebody else”.
The loss ended Aldo’s seven-year reign as featherweight champion.
However, according to mmajunkie.com, McGregor could be eyeing a move up in weight to the lightweight division- just don’t think for a second that the Irishman is giving up his featherweight title in the process.
“I said to (UFC co-founder) Lorenzo Fertitta, and I said to (UFC president) Dana (White), I’m bringing in these big numbers”. I understand why, previously, other fighters wouldn’t do it. But look how many fights I’ve had in the past year.
“It wasn’t this time, but we will come out victorious, for sure”.
On Saturday he said: ‘I’ll tell you one thing that won’t be happening. That’s right, McGregor wants to be a simultaneous two-division champ.
“I said his right hand would get him into trouble”, he said, “it’s the shot I predicted, I said he’d overload on his right hand, I said I’d slip and I’d bang the left hook and that’s what happened”.
“If he comes up to lightweight, he’s going to get hurt”, Dos Anjos said.
