Jose Enrique included in Liverpool’s 2015/16 Premier League squad
The striker enjoyed an impressive start to his Liverpool career after joining from Chelsea, going on to form a deadly partnership with Luis Suarez as they finished as runners-up in the Premier League the season before last.
Brendan Rodgers has today submitted his completed squad list for this season’s Europa League group stage.
The 29-year-old shut down his Twitter and Instagram accounts on Tuesday in an attempt to show he is ready to concentrate on improving his game.
Craig Bellamy was speaking at the McDonald’s & FAW Community Football Day, championing accredited clubs across England & encouraging youngsters to share their best goal celebrations through #CelebrateBetter.
The 21-man squad includes two notable omissions – defender Jose Enrique and midfielder Joao Carlos Teixeira – who both failed to do enough to earn a spot in the team due to the various UEFA restrictions now in place.
Because Liverpool do not have any players who satisfy the other “club trained” requirement they were limited to naming 21 players.
As ESPN explain, the Reds were permitted to name a 25-man squad, with the understanding that at least eight of those players would be homegrown.
Home-grown players born on or after January 1 1994 are eligible to play via “List B”, meaning the likes of Jordon Ibe and Jordan Rossiter do not need to be named in the main squad.
Joe Gomez, Emre Can and Divock Origi would all be classified as under-21 players by age, but cannot be included on the “B” list as they do not have the required two years of uninterrupted service at Anfield.
