Jose Mourinho confident about becoming Man United manager
Manchester United have reportedly held talks with representatives of former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho about replacing under-fire boss Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford.
Patience is a virtue after all, and it seems that supporters hoping Jose Mourinho will be taking over from Louis van Gaal midway through this season are wide of the mark.
Jose Mourinho has opened talks with Manchester United and could soon become their next manager, according to reports. United, who sit fifth in the Premier League, take on Chelsea on Sunday.
But his form has nose-dived this season, mirroring the fortunes of the team, whose record of nine defeats in their opening 16 league game saw Mourinho sacked as manager in December.
The defender has been on the sidelines in recent weeks with a foot injury but is now back in full training – although it remains to be seen whether he’ll be in contention to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
Would Mourinho be a good appointment for United?
But United got back to winning ways with victory at Derby in the FA Cup and then switched to a more attacking style to brush Stoke aside 3-0.
Although performance and results have picked up, Louis van Gaal is still very much fighting for his job. “I have already played Mata in the same role”.
Welcoming criticism against him, the Dutchman said that it was obvious to receive the criticism especially after losing four matches in a row, the Guardian reported.
De Boer said: “Louis realises more than anyone that a club with the status of Manchester United must at least qualify for the Champions League”.
“I am not out of range when we win in a way that we like, but I’m also not as disappointed when we lose in a way I don’t like”.
Mourinho added: “At this moment I don’t know where football will take me, because in football you never know”.
Luke Shaw was named in United’s Europa League squad this week, and Van Gaal says the full-back can aim to be fit for the final in Basel in May, as he continues his recovery from a broken leg.
