Jose Mourinho confirms Marouane Fellaini suffers bad back injury
Jose Mourinho has insisted Marcus Rashford and Manchester United will benefit from the teenager’s demotion to the England Under-21 squad, despite the 18-year-old once again showcasing his match-winning abilities with a stoppage time victor against Hull City. The 18-year-old Rashford burst onto the scene in the second half of last season, earning a place in England’s European Championship squad, but has been displaced by Ibrahimovic under new coach Jose Mourinho. So I think it’s very good for him to be on the pitch for 90 minutes with the under-21 squad.
Mourinho has enjoyed an excellent start to life at Old Trafford, with United boasting a ideal record from three league games, and winning the Community Shield against Leicester. “He came on and gave us diversity in our football”, Mourinho told reporters.
Wayne Rooney broke into laughter as he revealed that Marcus Rashford’s stoppage-time movement had passed him by.
“I have two weeks before the next match, I have to analyse the opponents and see the way my boys are coming back from the global games”, Mourinho said.
“I know when we score late people will speak about a bit of luck but the reality is we deserved it, especially in the second half”.
Mourinho confirmed that the 18-year-old can play alongside Ibrahimovic, and a probable formation change might be on the cards for the Red Devils. The defender went on to say that “luckily Marcus ended up in the right place at the right time” to get such a crucial victor that sends the players into the worldwide break in good spirits. “They couldn’t do more than what they did and congratulations to Mike and the Hull boys”.
Manchester United, who won all the three games of the Premier League so far, will play their next match against Manchester City on September 10.
“We believe until this last minute and this is a sign of a team that want to win”, said a bullish Mourinho, in an interview with BT Sport.
“We did everything to win”, said Mourinho.
‘It’s important he gets games because he hasn’t played that much. Winning in the added time always leaves a special taste; however, next time we will try to close the game earlier. These players here need help. The left-back continued on to congratulate the United fans who were so happy with the win saying “they were unbelievable today”.
He said: “The players have shown a togetherness and grouped themselves together really well through all the adversity they’ve been through”.
