Jose Mourinho: Eden Hazard Better Than Cristiano Ronaldo, Messi The Best
The Chelsea manager has never been afraid to express an opinion or two and with the start of the new League season just 10 days away, he has some high profile names in his sights… including one Cristiano Ronaldo.
Mourinho went on to say that he feels Messi is now the best player in the world.
“Obviously it depends on the season they have”, he explained.
Mourinho also argued that a truly great player needs to win titles with their team, saying: “They have to win some titles, no?”
“I don’t like players of managers to win individual trophies without the team”. He was fantastic. He scored an incredible number of goals.
Mourinho confirmed that John Terry and Branislav Ivanovic would be Chelsea captains for the upcoming season, but said that Hazard has all the makings of a future Blues skipper.
Hazard said: ‘If I want to reach this level I have to score 40 or 50 goals just for one season.
Explaining his reasoning behind Hazard’s climb, Mourinho said: “Football without titles is nothing. Messi won the treble”. “I would like more protection for him, but it’s beyond my control”, said the manager, who will train his squad at their Montreal base before the last game of their three-match North American tour against Barcelona in Washington DC. He had a fantastic season for him and for his team.
The Madrid forward won the Ballon d’Or award for the third time in January, but Mourinho still insists that Hazard has performed better than the Manchester United legend. He suffered more than a couple of nasty tackles and could have been in trouble. I saw lots of players breaking legs and ankles with less than that. I don’t want him crying or overreacting.
