Jose Mourinho has no issues with Arsene Wenger ahead of weekend meeting
Premier League rivals Arsenal and Manchester United go head-to-head this weekend. But I can not now play with the same team that played at Celta. “We have great goalkeepers and (against) anyone in the world I trust (them) completely”.
Rashford won a penalty to give Manchester United a first-half lead at Old Trafford last Sunday. I think the biggest battle will be Marcus Rashford versus our not very fantastic three-man defence – if he plays.
Manchester United fullback Luke Shaw is set to miss preseason with his foot injury. We can not speculate on any weakness of United.
But Mourinho insisted the tie is far from over and urged United’s fans to play their part at Old Trafford.
“If we play the final, the players who play it would not be selected for the Sunday before the final”.
“Any Manchester United versus Arsenal clash a decade ago would be one of the biggest fixtures on the calendar but now it’s slipped down the pecking order”.
But Mourinho claimed there was no need to bury the hatchet with Wenger and that the under-fire Arsenal boss should be happy he will make changes with the Gunners themselves still harbouring ambitions of a top four finish.
“I don’t care what people think about me”, he added.
Until the goal, United’s finishing had been poor, with Celta keeper Sergio Alvarez thwarting them several times.
Protests against any new offer have ramped up in recent weeks following a poor spell of results which has seen Arsenal slip out of the Premier League’s top four and crash out of the Champions League. “Whenever I make a decision, that is me 100 per cent into it”. It’s good. Now a match at Old Trafford.
As always, feel free to post your own Man United starting XI in the comments section below.
The loss of Vieira would be the beginning of the end, next would be Piers and Dennis Bergkamp, then Henry, then Gilberto Silva and so on and instead of the big, intimidating forces that dominated the Highbury tunnel replacing them it was smaller, more ball playing, more youthful players. He’s done everything – and more – expected of him this season.
Former United stars Ferdinand and Owen believe that the two quality attackers bring a different style of leading the line to United, with the experienced Swede a top goalscorer but not one to link the play.
United play the first leg in Spain on Thursday, and Mourinho wants the atmosphere for the return to be memorable because his players are “not so confident” when they do not have the full backing of their home support.
