Jose Mourinho thinks Arsenal can still qualify for Champions League Last 16
The Gunners would hold on for that score-line – earning a 3-0 victory which not only secures them a spot in the Europa League at worst, but also hands them a real chance of making it through to the last 16.
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho would like to see Olympiacos progress to the last 16 of the Champions League at Arsenal’s expense. “It was a good night and Bayern did a good job too”, said Wenger. “It’s tough but we have to believe we can do it and I believe we can do it”.
“One advantage is the task is very clear”. This time we need to qualify. It’s you, the press, that gave me that reputation.
“You have to trust UEFA and the organisation over there to ensure it is handled well”.
Sanchez has been directly involved in seven of Arsenal’s nine Champions League goals this season.
The manager all but ruled out a rest for Alexis Sanchez, despite the return of Chamberlain and a fit-again Aaron Ramsey, who came on as a substitute in midweek after over a month on the sidelines. “If I find the right quality I will do something”, he said. “I spent £40m on Ozil and it was a bargain because he is a top player”, Wenger said at a news conference ahead of his team’s match away to Norwich City on Sunday. “We had a game of quality and control”.
Ozil and Sanchez, Arsenal’s two biggest signings in their history, showed their class to steer Arsenal to the win as both excelled in their own position.
A flowing team move involving Cazorla and Mathieu Flamini set up Giroud for a chance at the near post, but the forward could not sort his feet out to turn a shot on target. We had to play for our lives. It certainly looked like a penalty, and if given, it could have made the result even more lopsided.
“If we get through we will be a threat”. What is for us a bargain is to buy top quality as only top quality strengthens our squad.
Mourinho said he had no doubt Arsenal could qualify despite a disastrous start to the group that saw them lose at Dinamo Zagreb and at home to Olympiakos.
“We tried to do our best”.
The German champions, who had defender Holger Badstuber, back from injury, sent off early in the second half with a straight red card, were unstoppable in the opening 20 minutes, scoring three times to put the game to bed early.
“They were really pressing”. They can create havoc on the counter attack. “I really enjoyed the Dinamo game”.
“We have to be honest”.
He told reporters: “I would always like English teams to qualify, first”.
