Jose Mourinho: Tottenham are thriving because they have no pressure to win
Spurs are fifth, 10 points and 10 places better off than the Barclays Premier League champions, who are seeking just a second away win of the season.
Tottenham will be looking for more of the same when they welcome Chelsea to White Hart Lane on Sunday in a London derby.
And Pochettino’s success has attracted praise from the Special One, who has also admitted that his Tottenham counterpart enjoys less pressure. For many players it gave the belief that we can achieve important things.
“You can bring in young players without problems, even if they’re not ready”. We have to play every game with ambition, with determination.
“I’m not focused on the market because I think about going with the same players”, he said.
Mourinho said: “We’ve known each other for a long time”. I could understand. It has been like that some games for me. He wants to grow up with us and try the next few years to try for the top four and win titles with Tottenham. But we have a very good relationship. But I have respect for him.
At least Spurs first team coach Mauricio Pochettino has a good humor about the whole thing.
However, Pochettino is refusing to write them off and he is also concerned about his side’s lack of preparation time for the game following their Europa League match in Azerbaijan on Thursday.
But while Pochettino pleaded for help from the Premier League over his side’s gruelling schedule, he still believes they should be aiming higher than fourth this season.
“It was a tough trip to Baku but we’ve handled it well and we’re delighted to get three points”, Dier said.
“Tottenham has always been a massive club and we’re getting the mix right”. They play at Tottenham on Sunday.
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho says he knows “which players are possible and which are impossible” when it comes to a move to Stamford Bridge during the January transfer window but insists he will not ask the board for reinforcements. I’d accept it because the team is very good.
The Spurs boss’s stock is on the rise after a fine start to the season which has seen the club go over three months without a Premier League defeat.
His focus until the turn of the year is on Chelsea finding momentum, continuing at a venue where they have one win in the last 10 visits and lost 5-3 on New Year’s Day in a performance which exposed frailties which are now familiar.
