Joseph Duffy, Dustin Poirier to headline UFC Fight Night in Dublin
It looks like the UFC’s next stop in Dublin has finally got a headliner.
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is giving Irish fight fans a fantastic lightweight main event for the upcoming UFC Fight Night 77 mixed martial arts (MMA) event, booked for October. 24, 2015 inside 3Arena in Dublin, Ireland.
Duffy confirmed today that Poirier, who formerly faced Conor McGregor at UFC 178, will be his opponent in the main event on the card. He also earned a first round submission over current UFC lightweight Norman Parke.
Duffy debuted with a first-round win over Jake Lindsey in March, before stopping Ivan Jorge inside the opening minutes during his second appearance on July 18.
He has recorded back-to-back first-round finishes to start his UFC career.
Poirier will provide a stern test having already drawn the ire of the Irish fans when he fought, and was ultimately knocked out by, McGregor in Las Vegas previous year.
Duffy (14-1), from Donegal, is now based out of Tristar gym in Montreal, home of superstars George Saint Pierre and Rory MacDonald, has been sensational since his arrival in the UFC earlier this year.
Hiss opponent, Poirier (17-4), a Louisiana native, will be looking to make it three straight wins as a member of the lightweight division after walking away with a first round knockouts over Carlos Diego Ferriera and Yancy Medeiros.
The UFC is returning to Ireland, the scene of one of the most exciting cards in the promotion’s history, for UFC Fight Night 77.
