Josh McCown on trade talk: My focus is on the Browns
Cleveland Browns quarterback Josh McCown has been a hot name in trade rumblings, with the Dallas Cowboys in search of Tony Romo’s backup.
The Cowboys were 1-11 without Romo in the starting lineup last season, so securing a solid backup is essential for the organization.
McCown, 37, has been working with the second team behind Griffin during camp.
The Browns also have quarterbacks Austin Davis and rookie Cody Kessler.
The team hasn’t decided how they will handle Moore’s roster spot, but club officials met again midday Wednesday to go over veteran quarterback options and whether they want to make a trade.
The decision might not be easy. Griffin, who has had ankle and knee injuries in his brief career, was healthy last season but did not play a down for Washington. He threw for 2,109 yards with 12 touchdowns and four interceptions. He’s a loved and respected teammate who does his best to make everyone around him better.
“Unbelievable value”, Greco said. Just because here’s a guy with a lot of skins on the wall.
“He’s one of the leaders, so having him in the locker room is a great thing”. “So that’s my (mindset) really is to go about it that way, because if it changes, it changes and I’ll attack that situation the same way I’ve done as I’ve been here, but my focus is being here, being on this team and helping us win”.
McCown said he talked with the front office and they’re on the “same page” – which would seem to indicate he’s staying put. He’s done a tremendous job and what a good football player. But it’s a great opportunity to just exercise mental focus and toughness and to be able to go out and do your job.
“For me, my job and my heart is here”, McCown told the media after practice in Berea.
