Joshua ready to take on Fury
“This is a dream come true”, said an emotional Fury, who broke into in tears after the fight.
The Manchester-born fighter pulled off one of the sport’s greatest upsets when he outpointed the Ukrainian to become heavyweight champion of the world in Dusseldorf on Saturday night.
The IBF confirmed to Boxing News that their heavyweight title will become vacant if Fury faces Klitschko in a rematch, which looks all but confirmed.
“Every time I’m pulling up at a petrol station or checking social media, everyone’s asking me when I’m going to fight Tyson Fury”, Joshua said.
“There will be a huge worldwide interest in this fight which already can be billed as the fight of the year 2016”, said Klitschko’s manager Bernd Boente.
“We received so many questions of fans and journalists after [the fight]”.
Trainer Peter Fury has hit out at the IBF after they threatened to strip new world champion Tyson Fury following his win on Saturday. Peter Fury suggested holding the new fight in England, possibly at Wembley Stadium.
“He’ll think he can do better, he should have done this, he should have done that”.
“I honestly believe from the bottom of my heart that not only would he have beaten Klitschko last Sunday, he would have knocked him out”. Klitschko said in a statement on his website he had made a decision to take up the contractual option for a rematch. “I would like it to be back here in the United Kingdom”, he said. “I don’t really feel any different now I am the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world”.
6 ft 9in Fury kept Klitschko at bay in the fight, with the champion unable to unleash his lethal right and reduced to jabbing away with his left whenever he managed to get within striking distance and doing little damage.
“We are looking, me and [Fury’s promoter] Mick Hennessy, to put the fight on in the United Kingdom, if we can”.
“When he’s training he’s obviously got to stick to a strict diet, but now he’s won the fight and no longer training he’s celebrating, enjoying himself and having fun – he deserves it”.
