Journalist was out of line asking Obama about American — CNN reporters
President Obama exhibited his typical cool and analytical manner Wednesday in arguing for the new Iran nuclear deal and rebutting a variety of initial criticisms.
“I’ve got to give you credit, Major, for how you craft those questions”, Mr Obama responded. Suddenly, Iran realizes you know what? “Nobody’s content. And our diplomats and our teams are working diligently to try to get them out”, he said. “Three held on trumped-up charges, according to your administration, and one whereabouts unknown”, he said, referring to Christian pastor Saeed Abedini, retired U.S. Marine Amir Hekmati, Washington Post Tehran bureau chief Jason Rezaian and former FBI agent Robert Levinson, who went missing in Iran years ago.
“Now, if the question is why we did not tie negotiations to their release, think about the logic that that creates”.
If “nobody is content, “then why are “international negotiators celebrating a deal with Iran”?””
“My question did not suggest that he was content with the captivity of those four Americans”, Garrett said.
Garrett bluntly asked Obama why the US government wasn’t more focused on the Americans being held against their will in Iran. Iran has a nuclear deal and continues to imprison the Americans.
“Clearly it struck a nerve”, Garrett told CBS anchor Contessa Brewer. “That was my intention”, Garrett added. Because everyone who works for the President and the families of those four Americans have heard the President say he’s not content and they will work overtime to win their eventual release.
“There is an art to asking tight questions at a press conference where you may not get a follow up”, tweeted veteran political reporter Jon Ralston.
Though the White House took some time to come around and support same-sex marriage, the June 26 Supreme Court decision to make it the law throughout America was a clear victory for Obama, especially given the vehement opposition from several high-profile Republicans.
