Journey drummer Deen Castronovo pleads guilty to domestic violen
Castronovo was originally booked on assault, coercion and menacing charges on June 16 after Salem police were called to his home.
However, he pleaded guilty to two counts of fourth degree assault constituting domestic violence, two counts of menacing constituting domestic violence, unlawful use of a weapon and coercion, with the other charges dropped in exchange for his guilty plea.
Deen Castronovo, the drummer for Journey since 1998, has plead guilty to domestic abuse in Salem, OR.
He has also been ordered by a Salem judge to undergo domestic violence and drug counseling. If he violates any of the terms of the sentence, he could receive up to five years in prison.
The ruling was made a week before Castonovo was due to go to trial. Marion County Judge Audrey Broyles declined to set bail after prosecutors said Castronovo texted the woman 122 times and called her 35 times and presents a threat to the woman if he’s released.
As the investigation proceeded, Castronovo faced additional charges, including rape, sex abuse and assault related to an incident that court records say occurred June 8. However, if he does well for the first two years, he can petition the court to reduce his felony charges to misdemeanors.
Castronovo was in the news this spring when he delivered a $10,000 check to South Albany High School to help replace band instruments and music lost in a fire.
Castronovo has not performed with Journey since his arrest and was replaced on the group’s North America tour by Omar Hakim.
