JR Smith Allegedly Choked Heckler … Over Knicks Insult
Smith has not been arrested in the matter that allegedly occurred in front of “Artichoke Basille’s Pizza about 4 a.m. on November 13 at W. 17th St. and Tenth Ave”, the Daily News reports. Cleveland was playing the NY Knicks later that night.
The teen, Justin Brown, who wears braces and hails from Harlem, was with pals who chided Smith for ignoring their fan request for a photo. Smith’s lawyer said the allegation is completely false, according to NY Daily News. The friends made a joke along the lines of, “That’s why NY kicked you out, yo!”
The teen told police that Smith then put his hands around the teen’s throat before being pulled off by another person, the Post reported.
Cleveland Cavaliers guard J.R. Smith’s name is being tied to a freakish story out of NY. Even if the high school kids were egging Smith on it is this type of decision making that had the Knicks wary of signing him to a long term deal.
Police said no charges have been filed and Smith’s attorney denies it happened. But Brown has yet to issue a further statement to news today. According to the News, Brown claims he filed a report at the scene of the incident, but the NYPD tells us they have “no knowledge of the initial report getting lost”.
On Friday he wrote on Twitter, ‘Don’t believe everything you read!’
