JT Miller scores in OT to give Rangers win over Canucks
They fired 49 shots at Vancouver goalie Ryan Miller and hit five goalposts … and still had to come from behind in the third period before winning it, 3-2, in overtime on a wrap-around goal by J.T. Miller (no relation).
With nine goals and 37 points in 44 games this season, Henrik sits behind only his brother Daniel (41) in scoring for the Canucks.
J.T. Miller scooped up his own rebound and scored on a wraparound 3:54 into overtime, and the Rangers rallied for a 3-2 victory over the Canucks on Tuesday.
If not for Zuccarello’s tying goal, this game might have turned into an extremely disappointing loss, especially after how strong the Rangers were playing.
The Canucks have three games remaining on their six-game eastern road trip, before returning home for one game ahead of the All-Star break.
Henrik’s injury was the result of a hit-from-behind from the Islanders’ Mikhail Grabovski near the end of the first period of Sunday’s game.
“They’re opportunistic, and they are also able to get in the zone and work around”, Ryan Miller said of the Rangers.
Miller’s 10th goal capped a furious third period that the Rangers began trailing 2-1 despite outshooting the Canucks 30-17 and ringing the post four times, as they pushed frantically for the tie.
The New York Rangers needed more than a season-high 49 shots to beat Ryan Miller and Vancouver.
Baertschi gave Vancouver the lead at 9:02 of the first period with his eighth goal.
Despite being outshot 17-11 in the opening period, the Canucks led 1-0 on a Sven Baertschi goal beautifully set up by Bo Horvat, who skated strongly past Ranger defencemen Dan Boyle and centred the puck to his streaking linemate.
Stepan tied the game early in the second period with the officials about to call a delayed penalty on Vancouver.
Then, Emerson Etem, in his first game at the Garden since being traded on January 8, tried a pass from the right side to the far post where a falling Alex Burrows redirected the puck and Lundqvist angrily smashed his stick on the ice in frustration at 16:11. In my first year here, I said he needs to figure it out. “I think the way we are improving as a group”.
NOTES: Canucks LW Brandon Prust was in the lineup after coach Willie Desjardins said Tuesday morning that he could be scratched…. Rangers C Derick Brassard (flu) did not play…. Rangers D Dylan McIlrath was a healthy scratch.
