JU students who raised anti-India slogans need thrashing: BJP
Amid the raging political row over police crack down on JNU students, an intelligence report has revealed that Kashmiri separatists’ sympathisers had planned to commemorate the anniversary of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru’s hanging simultaneously in 18 universities. Shounak said, “We had called for a protest march and there were some former students who might have raised such slogans”. At around 5:30, these same group of people rushed from the gate and started vandalising the campus. We have been anticipating some kind of violence and positive sufficient at about 5:30, a gaggle of about 50 college students rushed to the campus.
“These are some fringe elements. When we say we want “azadi”, it begins with the freedom to discuss these things freely and liberally”.
“The BJP Government, which had accompanied terrorists to Kandahar, and now taking about anti-national slogans, they will have to pay for their blunder”, he added. “Do not character assassinate the entire university by branding it as anti-national”, SFI general secretary Vikram Singh said. He added that in a university, “the police has no role and that he “will never call police in the campus”.
“As a Vice Chancellor, it is my responsibility to see that the students get their right to protest, their freedom of speech and expression is protected”, he said. But that does not reflect the stand of the majority of students.
They shouted slogans demanding exemplary punishment for those indulging in “anti-national” activities and raising secessionist slogans in the campus.
The CPI-M backed Students Federation of India, CPI supported All India Students Federation and the Revolutionary Socialist Party’s arm Progressive Students Union were among those who took part in the rally from College Square to the Y Channel in the city centre.
When his comment was sought, ABVP state secretary Subir Haldar said “This is a blatant lie by SFI in order to save itself as its members had raised anti-India slogans”.
“At a time efforts are on to peddle a fundamentalist brand of nationalist across the country, and brign about communal polarisation, and undermine left student politics, such irresponsible acts will strengthen the hands of the fascist forces”.
