Juan Uribe headed to Kansas City with the New York Mets
If Uribe is to get hurt, the Mets can replace him on the roster with approval from the commissioner’s office, but he’d be ineligible to return later in the series. If he gets into a game, the utility man would become the first player in major league history to make his big league debut in the Fall Classic. Reynolds was added to the NLDS roster as protection after Ruben Tejada suffered a broken leg in a collision with Dodgers back-up second baseman.
Uribe is 7-35 in his career in the World Series with 3 runs scored and 7 RBI.
Last season for the Rocks, Mondesi hit.
The Mets could have had a player looking for his debut in the Series as well but activated veteran infielder Juan Uribe over novice shortstop Matt Reynolds.
Raul Mondesi, the father, was the 1994 National League Rookie of the Year with the Dodgers and hit 271 home runs in 13 seasons with seven teams. He was added to the roster at the expense of Terrance Gore, giving Kansas City more options – pinch running, pinch hitting and double switches – when the games shift to New York and National League rules are in play. Uribe will take the place of backup shortstop Matt Reynolds. I’m happy to have [Mondesi]. He’s been a great addition to the Royals.
“Definitely big jump”, Cain said. But couldn’t be happier for him.
“I think mine is gone at the end of the year”, deGrom said. Definitely helps us out tremendously. He has played in the playoffs with 4 of the 6 teams he’s ever been on, and one of those 6 was the Atlanta Braves in 2015 where he spent only 46 games.
Yost said the Mondesi move had nothing to do with the status of Ben Zobrist, who might have to go on paternity leave before the series is over. He damaged cartilage just a few days prior to that, while taking a dive for a ground-ball when he was playing second base.
“He’s coaching Little League in the Dominican”, Mondesi said.
