Judge denies release of records detailing Gov. Chris Christie’s out-of
One of the bill’s sponsors, Democratic Assemblywoman Valerie Vainieri Huttle, accused Christie, a 2016 GOP presidential candidate, of vetoing the bill for political reasons. But some activists had also privately anxious that Christie’s presidential ambitions would sink any bill that was LGBT-related as the governor attempts to woo conservative primary voters to his side. The bill (S1195) would have allowed a person’s licensed health care provider to certify they had undergone clinically appropriate treatment for gender transition, based on contemporary medical standards, or the person has an intersex condition.
“Birth certificates unlock access to many of our nation and state’s critical and protected benefits such as passports, driver’s licenses, and social services, as well as other important security-dependent allowances”, Christie said.
Top among the outstanding bills is a package of legislation to expand voting access in New Jersey and help shore up Atlantic City’s finances. “Accordingly, I remain committed to the principle that efforts to significantly alter state law concerning the issuance of vital records that have the potential to create legal uncertainties should be closely scrutinized and sparingly approved”. He also argued that the system needs more reform than the bill called for. Democrats, with the backing of public-worker union leaders, pitched making quarterly payments as a way to ensure at least some funds get into the $80 billion pension system during the course of the fiscal year. “Yet, Gov. Christie’s veto ignores all the other processes they’ve undergone and makes sex reassignment their only option when it comes to changing their birth certificate to recognize their inherent self”. In 2012, Sheldon G. Adelson, the billionaire casino owner and supporter of Israel, lent Christie his private plane so the governor could go on a trade mission to Israel, according to The New York Times.
“His veto on this bill keeps in place outdated and burdensome requirements that make it incredibly hard for transgender people to get birth certificates that match who they are”, Christian said.
“For the second time, Governor Chris Christie has elected to allow his state’s birth certificate laws to deteriorate despite the overwhelming majority of support from the New Jersey legislature to modernize”.
A state Superior Court judge has denied a request to compel the state to release new details about Gov. Chris Christie’s expenses while traveling out-of-state.
The bills were among more than 100 pieces of legislation that have lingered on Mr. Christie’s desk since the Legislature wrapped up its last big round of lawmaking in June. Under previous law, first-time offenders had a presumption of non-imprisonment.
