Judge rules that Suge Knight, Katt Williams will stand trial
But a short while later, Knight, 50, held up the sign again while the judge was speaking. They have each plead not guilty.
Knight was a key player in the gangster rap scene that flourished in the 1990s, and his Death Row Records label once listed Dr. Dre, Tupac Shakur and Snoop Dogg among its artists.
Billboard reports that Marion “Suge” Knight and Katt Williams are set to stand trial on charges of robbery after they reportedly took a camera from celebrity photographer Leslie Redden previous year.
Last September, Knight and Williams were originally charged with stealing her camera and although Knight’s lawyers initially requested an extension, L.A. area judge, Ronald Coen, has ordered that the hearing move forward.
Knight is now in prison and if convicted in either case faces a life sentence because of his previous convictions.
Redden took the stand yesterday to give her testimony, in which she said she was politely asking if she could take a picture of them.
The defense for both Williams and Knight said they were trying to prevent Knight’s young son from being photographed. She added that she did not take any photos of the child and was intent on getting pics of Williams and not Knight.
‘Any father would have acted as he did’. Reportedly, Williams was the one who actually stole the camera as ordered by Suge Knight, but Redden herself put the video on streaming website, YouTube.
Williams’ attorney Shawn Holley said that he briefly took the camera after a woman in his entourage took it first.
Redden claimed in her testimony that she sustained injuries to her hands and wrist along with a concussion. Knight was heard yelling the video. ‘I just remember looking at his eyes and realizing it was getting very risky, ‘ Redden testified Tuesday.
