Judge: Some St. Louis seat-license holders have rights in LA
A major ruling comes down from a federal judge when it comes to Rams fans in St. Louis who bought Personal Seat Licenses with their season tickets. District Judge Judge Stephen Limbaugh Jr. ruled on Wednesday that fans who bought their PSLs through the Rams will be allowed to buy season tickets for the games in Los Angeles.
Those lawsuits were later consolidated into one big case in which the Rams offered about 46,000 personal seat licenses in St. Louis through their ticketing agency. “They had no obligation to the fans who supported this team for 20 years”. Multiple lawsuits were filed regarding the situation with PSL holders in St. Louis when the Rams moved to Los Angeles. It wasn’t immediately clear whether the Rams would appeal.
A spokeswoman for the Rams said the team doesn’t comment on pending litigation. Messages left with team attorneys were not returned. He said the deposit language was inserted into the contract to provide refunds in the event the National Football League didn’t approve the Rams’ move to St. Louis in 1995. “So the two different types of PSLs…might have two courses of action they could take here”.
Limbaugh’s ruling differentiates between PSL contracts sold by the Rams directly, and those sold by their ticketing agent, FANS Inc. The contracts ran through 2025, and made no mention on the location of the franchise, and should therefore be honored. It was good for 30 years…but there was language that said they could break it…but would have to refund on the years remaining (that people didn’t have the ability to buy season tickets).
But contracts sold directly by the team do not state that the PSL agreement ends due to relocation, Limbaugh said.
