At the 21st Annual SAG Awards, Julianne Moore, 54, won the trophy for her outstanding performance in Still Alice. In her acceptance speech, she recalled her innings in the CBS soap opera As the World Turns. The now defunct soap in which Moore appeared between 1985 and 1988, had her playing the classic dual role, Frannie Hughes and her twin sister Sabrina : a good and the evil one. Moore also won a Daytime Emmy for her role in the drama.
In Still Alice, Moore plays the title character, a happily married Columbia linguistics professor and an author whose life slowly changes after she’s diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer ’s disease. The movie revolves around her struggles in managing her marriage, children and job after the devastating diagnosis. Moore thanked her Still Alice co-stars Alec Baldwin, Kristen Stewart, Kate Bosworth, and Hunter Parrish. She opened her acceptance speech with a sweet shout-out to As the World Turns.
Moore isn’t the first alum of As the World Turns soap, which ran from 1956 to 2010, to receive the SAG award. Other celebrities from the show include Martin Sheen (The West Wing), who is four-time SAG winner, SAG nominee Amanda Seyfried, and James Earl Jones, 2009 SAG’s Lifetime Achievement Award honouree. Moore’s tribute to her soap beginnings was indeed the highlight of her speech.
Julianne Moore turned heads on the red carpet at SAG Awards, looking elegant in a shiny emerald-green Givenchy gown. She completed her look perfectly accessorized with purple round earrings and wavy signature red hair. Her glamorous presence stole the show of the event!
Moore’s role as a young Alzheimer’s patient in Still Alice has won her a Golden Globe, Critics’ Choice Award, and a SAG. She is clearly the frontrunner for an Oscar. We really hope Moore gets more recommendation for her role!
