Julio Jones named NFC Offensive Player of the Month
Basically, the second half of the game belonged to the Falcons, especially two of their players, wide receiver Julio Jones and running back Devonta Freeman. Naturally, Jones is the NFC Offensive Player for September. If Jones were to keep up this insane pace, he’d finish the season with 181 receptions, 2,346 yards and 21 touchdowns.
The Cowboys blew three 14-point leads in a loss to the Atlanta Falcons last Sunday and face the New England Patriots, the New York Giants, the Seattle Seahawks, the Philadelphia Eagles and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before Romo returns from a fractured collarbone November 22.
Atlanta Falcons head coach Dan Quinn prior to the game against the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium. He had 440 receiving yards and four touchdowns in the month.
“No, not at all“, Jones said, via the Houston Chronicle. This contest would be the first one for the Cowboys to play without both quterback Tony Romo (broken left clavicle) and wide receiver Dez Byrant (broken metatarsal in right foot). Jones has a rare combination of talent, work ethic and student mentality, which makes him an elite wideout in football. Since 2001, his 440 receiving yards in the first three weeks are the most by an NFC player and the third most by any receiver behind Wes Welker in 2011 (458) and Chad Johnson in 2007 (442). That’s record shattering numbers we’re potentially looking at!
