Junior Dos Santos-Alistair Overeem Finally Signed, Sealed, Delivered
You’re busy. No, you can’t go to that office Christmas party.
Junior dos Santos (17-3) and Alistair Overeem (39-14, 1 NC) are hoping that the third time is a charm, as the UFC on Tuesday announced that the heavyweights will hold the UFC on FOX 17 co-main event slot on December 19 at the Amway Center in Orlando, Fla. This will mark the final event of the UFC’s 2015 calendar.
“I don’t choose opponents, but I’m not gonna lie – it will feel great to shut this guy up”, dos Santos posted on his Instagram following the announcement.
Dos Santos strolls into the bout ranked No. 2 in the heavyweight division, while Overeem clocks in at No. 9.
Overeem, meanwhile, has won three of his last four scraps, including two straight. The match was set again for UFC 160 in May 2013, but an injury forced Overeem to withdraw from the engagement.
If the thought of two top-tier heavyweight strikers throwing fists, elbows, shins and knees inside the UFC Octagon until somebody falls down doesn’t tickle your fancy, the UFC on Fox 17 card gets even better. Topping the card is a UFC lightweight championship bout between newly crowned champion Rafael dos Anjos and three-time World Extreme Cagefighting title challenger Donald Cerrone. Prior to this vicvictoryotry, “Cigano” suffered a one-sided beatdown at the hands of former champion, and longtime rival, Cain Velasquez in their title fight at UFC 166.
