Junior dos Santos Faces Alistair Overeem At UFC on FOX 17
Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos will at long last have a chance to silence the chatter from 265-pound rival Alistair Overeem when they throw hands at the UFC on FOX 17 mixed martial arts (MMA) event on December. 19, 2015 inside Amway Center in Orlando, Florida.
The two have campaigned for this fight in recent weeks, with the exchanges getting nasty at times. A bout in 2012 fell through after Overeem tested positive for an elevated epitestosterone-to-testosterone ratio, and in 2013, he had to drop out of scheduled fight due to injury.
Johnson (16-9, 8-5 UFC) had won four in a row before a bout with Beneil Dariush earlier this month, where he lost a very controversial decision. Dos Santos would go on to defend the belt against Frank Mir.
Overeem, 35, last fought in March, when he picked Roy Nelson apart for the unanimous decision in Dallas at UFC 185.
Now positioned at No. 3 in the Sherdog.com heavyweight rankings, 31-year-old dos Santos holds an 11-2 record inside the Octagon, with both losses coming in title fights courtesy of former champ Cain Velasquez.
UFC on Fox 17 will be headlined by a lightweight title fight featuring champion Dos Anjos and Cerrone, as well as an interesting middleweight fight between Tamdan McCrory and Josh Samman. He scored a victory over Stipe Miocic at UFC on FOX 13.
