Jurgen Klopp Appointed As Coach For Liverpool FC
In an impressive first news conference later on Friday, Klopp told a packed audience at Anfield that he wanted a positive approach on and off the pitch, to “turn doubters into believers”.
He will replace Brendan Rodgers, who was sacked earlier in the week after failing to win a single trophy in his first three and a half years in charge as manager.
Klopp is expected to bring with him Bosnian Zeljko Buvac, his assistant both at Dortmund and Mainz before that, and coach Peter Krawietz.
Klopp quickly rejected suggestions that Liverpool’s transfer committee, which had bought 31 players at a cost of £291m under Rodgers, would prove an issue. “This role is the ideal next step for me”.
It’s a tall order Klopp faces with Liverpool, a club struggling to ascend back to the top of the table and to compete for a Premier League title.
“Please give us time to work on it. If you want, this could be a really special day”.
New Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp charmed a huge group of assembled media with an entertaining 26-minute press conference. It is all the people are interested in but you don’t take history in your backpack and carry it with you for 25 years. If not, we have to work further. “For me this is one of the biggest clubs in the world and to give me this opportunity, yes, to try to help in a situation that is not so hard like all the people in the room feel”.
But Klopp is now keen for Reds supporters to forget about their illustrious history and concentrate on building towards more success under his guidance. We want to be the best team in the world.
And Arsenal boss Wenger believes that memories of the 42-year-old’s exploits in the 2013-14 season, when Liverpool went agonisingly close to ending a 24-year wait to lift the Premier League title, were clouded in the midst of his abrupt departure. No. I am a normal guy. “We have to start anew and see what happens this year”.
“I want to have this “booooom!’ I like fighting football, not serenity football”. If you want, I am the normal one! First I want to talk to my team about the football. I’m sure they will take him to their hearts.
The German said managing Liverpool was “the biggest honour I can imagine” and called for patience as he implements a brand of “full-throttle” football that won two Bundesliga titles for Borussia Dortmund.
