Jurgen Klopp happy with Liverpool win
“Kolo was cramp but after three days you can’t play the next game”.
“We now have three injured centre-halves and the only fit one (Kolo Toure) got a cramp in the last minute, that’s not amusing”. While Toure may be available, Mamadou Sakho, who has a knee injury, is out.
“But we have to react and that is what we try to do”.
Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Philippe Coutinho and Dejan Lovren are expected to miss Liverpool’s crunch Premier League games against Arsenal and Manchester United.
There has been much conjecture about whether the introduction of Klopp’s gegenpressing style has led to the injuries – former Liverpool midfielder Graeme Souness said it was time for the manager to consider modifying training – but Lallana rejected that idea.
“Two weeks ago we had three centre backs, which is a good situation and the season started with five but now it is zero”, mused the Reds manager.
“I think there will be people coming in because of the injuries the club have at the moment”, he said.
Klopp now has 11 members of his senior squad unavailable, having seen 24 separate injuries suffered since he took charge at Anfield in October.
“It’s a little bit of a unusual feeling – on one side it’s very, very good because we won the game and played well, the players fought brilliantly”.
Jamie Carragher says Liverpool should not rush to spend in January, but predicts they will recruit due to defensive injuries.
“We will train with the team that will play tomorrow and then we will see what happens, but of course we’ll make changes”.
The 20-year-old winger, who got the victor at Stoke on Tuesday, is facing a spell on the sidelines after complaining of discomfort in the wake of the Capital One Cup semi-final first leg win.
“They had the benefit of the goal and as a outcome they could drop deeper and protect it”.
“We have no break, no chance to recover, but we can’t wave the white flag”.
“The key was that we didn’t concede another and that was a danger”.
“We showed what we were capable of, although we have shown what we were capable of in other games, but we have to show more consistency”.
