Jurgen Klopp has hilarious response when asked about Daniel Sturridge quit rumours
Journalists badgered Jurgen Klopp today about Daniel Sturridge during today’s press-conference, after Sam Wallace in this morning’s Telegraph claimed the striker is unhappy with how the club has portrayed his injury problems.
Daniel Sturridge of Liverpool during the Capital One Cup Quarter Final between Southampton and Liverpool at St Mary’s Stadium on December 2, 2015 in Southampton, England.
“I am not interested in this”. You can’t create stories then ask me about them.
He added that the Sturridge speculation “is absolutely no story, not interesting”.
“Obviously there were a few problems in the past with injuries, not only since I’m here”, he continued. Why should I think about that. Given how Roberto Firmino has played during Origi’s absence, it may be tough for the youngster to get consistent playing time when he returns, especially since Christian Benteke is fit and Daniel Sturridge (hamstring) is ready to return as well.
“We’re now in the moment where hopefully we can get the benefit of this (Sturridge’s training) hard work”. “But that’s the moment to say “come on”; there are another three sessions which we can use and they are available for West Ham, that’s the idea in this moment if nothing happens in the next session”.
Klopp also took in good part further comments made by Allardyce in a radio interview when he was asked for a view on Liverpool’s rash of injuries, and his reply was interpreted by some as an attack on the former Borussia Dortmund manager’s methods. I have heard nothing about it, so there is nothing else to say on it.
Youngster Brad Smith is pushing first-choice left-back Alberto Moreno hard for a start, while midfielder Joe Allen and striker Christian Benteke will hope to make the XI after having to settle for a place on the bench in recent weeks.
‘With Danny you have to learn to adapt to new intensity of training and you have to learn what is serious pain and what is only pain’.
Klopp said: “We had the problem with Martin Skrtel, a little bit re-injured”. “People talk about the financial power of England because of the TV contract”.
