Jurgen Klopp issues warning after Philippe Coutinho injury
Scans this afternoon revealed the injury was not as catastrophic as previously thought and Liverpool’s number 10 will not require surgery. A rough challenge from Sunderland midfielder Didier Ndong, left the player writhing in pain.
The 17-year-old made his senior competitive debut for the Reds in their 2-0 win over Sunderland in the Premier League at Anfield on Saturday, playing out the final minutes.
A fracture is not expected, but they are hoping their fears don’t come true. He was seen leaving the Reds’ Melwood training base on Sunday on crutches and with his right ankle in a medical boot, per BBC Sport’s Phil McNulty.
Thankfully for manager Jurgen Klopp it is not quite that bad, though he will still miss the busiest period of his side’s Premier League season.
All concerned parties had to wait for the results of a scan today. “What we know it is something with the ankle”. He was in pain but the pain got better.
“The size of the club puts no pressure on me”, said Klopp.
The win saw Liverpool temporarily take top spot in the table, before Chelsea returned to the summit later on after beating Tottenham. “I have no idea what team Garry [Monk] will play, but we will prepare for everything”.
‘After the game everyone was asking how he was.
“We have a few hours of training a day, but I’m here for much longer than for training”, Klopp told a news conference on Monday. We need to work hard in this game.
“We want to show it’s possible to play the way we play football without them, but of course it is better if they are all fit”.
He remains very highly-rated at Anfield and recently signed a new long-term professional contract at the club.
“To be honest, I don’t think the squad runs deeper than 13 or 14 players in terms of top-level class, so if they lose any more of those three lads who have been running the show, Jurgen’s resources are going to be stretched”.
Liverpool will also be without Lallana, who is nearly back in training but not ready to play yet and Daniel Sturridge for the match against Leeds, while there are also doubts over the fitness of Roberto Firmino, who suffered a kick to his calf in the Sunderland win.
