Jurgen Klopp: Liverpool boss ‘understands’ lack of patience
If this victory had given us as much confidence as the draw at Sunderland had given us a knock, then everything would be fine. That can be attributed to two factors: poor defending from the midfield back, and the inexplicable decision to rest Alexis Sanchez until the second half.
Arsenal’s trip to Liverpool on Saturday evening was a crunch fixture for both clubs who were looking to save their respective seasons.
“I have no special regrets, the only regret is to have lost the game”, said Wenger. “I will explain that later, one time”. A decision like that is not easy to make but you always have to stand up, ? he said.
There’s rarely a tiresome moment when Liverpool and Arsenal collide and another dramatic Anfield showdown appears to be on the cards as the race for the top four intensifies. It would allow him a proper, perhaps positive, sendoff from the fans before he goes to manage one of the dozens of clubs that would love to have him.
They turned that scoreline around to beat Arsenal 3-1 on Saturday night; you can read 16 Conclusions on the game here.
Liverpool brought in players such as Sadio Mane, Georginio Wijnaldum and Joel Matip past year, and Klopp acknowledged deals do not always come down exclusively to finances.
Danny Welbeck pulled one back for the Gunners, but Klopp’s side secured the three points in injury time when Georginio Wijnaldum fired home.
But the triumph was richly deserved by a team that showed more hunger, desire and fight than the pitiful Gunners – qualities that were sadly lacking from them at the King Power Stadium. For us, it was not a big advantage; as I said, Alexis had a big impact on the game, but because we had to adapt to it. We all know what we did last week and how we played. But I am not angry in this moment.
“The important thing in a development is that you take the information you get, work with it”.
“Most of the information you don’t like”.
“Except maybe if a player breaks his leg last week and plays then I want to meet the doctor!”
To be fair, we’d struggle to hold it together if we were in Sanchez’s shoes.
“We had a really hard week”, Klopp told a news conference.
“I understand that some people will lose their patience, but we can’t”.
“We can not ignore the things that happen around us but I am 100% optimistic again when I think about the Arsenal game – but I can not say I am in exactly the same mood as the start of the season (when they beat the Gunners 4-3 on the opening day)”.
