Jurgen Klopp: ‘Liverpool could have beaten Manchester City’
“For me City is the most hard team to play”.
A side like Manchester City, who they faced today, is nearly the ideal opposition for Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp to press and counter-attack at speed because they leave so much space. That’s not too bad.
Manchester City is getting 1/1 odds on for a win for Sunday’s game.
That they dropped two points will boost United, who could yet play a further 16 games in the Premier League and Europa League combined and who themselves resembled a group of players dragging over the line in the final half hour of their 3-1 victory at Middlesbrough. “That’s why I am confident we will be better next season”. “They’ve got a lot of top, top players”, he said. To be able to do that in front of my family makes me so happy.
“We take it. It is fair, we could have lost and we could have won”.
“A lot of teams have failed [against them]”. I thought the way they played against Monaco was quite impressive. “It could be a fantastic game to watch”.
Manchester City will be looking to reduce the gap between them and league leaders Chelsea when they host Liverpool.
“I never said we are going to win one title”.
“We all know the quality of Manchester City. More than ever I want to help the club, if I am able and if they want to stay with me, to put in the next years to be there with the next step forward”. We fight for that, we play for that. Few guys can beat me at that.
The Reds head into the game after having had a free week to prepare for the game following their 2-1 win over Burnley at Anfield last weekend.
Liverpool has had plenty of injury problems of late and, while the situation appears to be easing, striker Daniel Sturridge and captain Jordan Henderson remain sidelined.
Liverpool have beaten City five times in the last six PL meetings so getting almost 3/1 looks a great bet here. Indeed, Liverpool have won four consecutive league games against City for the first time since 1981 (a run of seven).
Jurgen Klopp’s Reds and Pep Guardiola’s City treated fans to a match filled with attacking excitement, as both sides had chances to score many more than just the one goal apiece.
Man City, who had no shot attempt in the first half, were on the brink of elimination with no away goal after Fabinho successfully brought it to an aggregate of 5-5, compared to their Monaco counterparts’ tally of three. That could be costly, as Sergio Aguero has found the net in each of his four home league games against Liverpool. The Premier League title bid faded long ago, falling off the pace after the team was the season’s early front-runner.
With Chelsea seemingly destined for domestic dominance this time around, City and Liverpool’s main focus is securing a top-four finish and Champions League football for 2017-18.
