Jurgen Klopp: ‘Liverpool must learn from Crystal Palace defeat’
No response was forthcoming from The Kop because the answer was obvious.
Scott Dann’s victor nine minutes from time handed Jurgen Klopp his first defeat as Liverpool manager as the former skipper watched on from the directors box. Philippe Coutinho has the ability to change the game. But the Belgian keeper failed to hold it and Liverpool born Dann was first to the rebound. Christian Benteke could be the answer as it seems that he has finally found form scoring in all of three matches in his last four appearances in the league.
Finally, in the 41st minute, came a goal well worth waiting for, at least as far as Gerrard and the home supporters were concerned.
Henry, who now plays his football in League One with Walsall, is enjoying a breakthrough season with The Saddlers and has become an integral part of manager Dean Smith’s side being deployed in both defence and midfield.
And it looked like the travelling had taken its toll on the home side in the early exchanges.
It was turning into an exhilarating encounter with Zaha breaking at full speed and crossing for Bakary Sako to shoot into the side netting and Benteke responding immediately with a header that flew just over from Alberto Moreno’s cross. “You could see he was going to win that ball, no-one was going to stop him and he defends like that”, Pardew said.
“Luck is not coming knocking on your door, you create that, the situation and the behaviour that you need to get lucky”.
“I thought it was a terrific game”.
“We are here to work hard and we have 10 days until we can start again, with Manchester City our next opponent”. It feels so bad because it was not necessary. Of course we could do more. “That was the worse thing”, said Klopp.
“We came here with ambition”.
“We went toe-to-toe against Manchester United and got a draw, we went toe-to-toe with Liverpool and got the win”. Sometimes it is about our own belief. “If he can add a bit of that to his game, his pace and his technique that he has, then we’ll have ourselves a great player, but he is still learning”. We have been good this year and started really well.
Dann brushed aside the half-hearted attentions of his marker Firmino eight minutes from time to meet Yohan Cabaye’s corner with a powerful header which Simon Mignolet initially did well to keep out.
Set to go for a scan tomorrow, Liverpool should have a pretty good idea how long he’ll be out for once they have the results, but for now, he’ll join a growing list of Reds on the treatment table – one that includes vice-captain James Milner.
