Jurgen Klopp plays down Liverpool expectation: “I am the Normal One!”
Liverpool’s new manager Jurgen Klopp says being called to work for the club is “the biggest honour I can imagine”, and set himself a target of a league title within four years.
When quizzed about whether he had a tagline akin to Jose Mourinho”s “special one’, Klopp followed the approach of former Chelsea boss Avram Grant and reluctantly said he was the “normal one”.
‘I think it suits Liverpool a lot more than Carlo Ancelotti, and there are parallels that can be drawn with Rafa Benitez coming from Valencia’.
For that he said, they are getting “a totally normal guy”.
The charismatic German held his first press conference since confirming his deal with the Reds on Thursday night.
“We have to change from doubter to believer”.
‘We start to play very emotional football, that is important at Anfield.
“In this moment we are not the best team in the world, but who cares?” said Klopp. I don’t want to spend money we don’t have. “I admire him”, Ferguson told ESPN.
“I’m not here to promise you will see against Tottenham the absolute new LFC – but a few of the new LFC would be cool”.
Liverpool’s owners, Fenway Sports Group, have moved quickly to replace Rodgers, who was sacked after three-and-a-half years in charge after a 1-1 Merseyside derby draw, and chairman Tom Werner believes they have secured the services of one of the brightest managerial talents in the game. This will be a good moment to restart.
“I know what I want”.
Ahead of that unveiling, however, he gave an interview to Liverpool’s website and gave an insight into the style of football Liverpool fans can expect. “It is a special club”.
“Now we have to start, and not to wait – I want to see the first step next week!”
“I would like to offer thanks to the ownership of Liverpool for showing faith in me and my staff and presenting us with this wonderful opportunity”. The players must feel the difference from now and feel they can reach the expectations of everybody: the fans and the media.
‘I think he’ll do very well. “We want to be the best team tomorrow or another day”, he said. If we sit here in four years I think we’ll have won one title – I’m pretty sure.
Rodgers failed to win a trophy or even get to a final during his tenure at Anfield, but came extremely close to winning a first league title in more than 20 years in the 2013-14 season.
