Jurgen Klopp relieved by Liverpool win at West Brom
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed he offered Alberto Moreno words of comfort after the full-back missed an open goal against West Brom on Sunday.
Two minutes later, the visitors should have been two goals to the good through Milner, who was found in space at the back post by the impressive Firmino, but he directed his volley over the bar from close range.
And Klopp admitted he could see how Pulis had frustrated Liverpool on their travels for so long.
Divock Origi’s header was disallowed for offside shortly afterwards and all Liverpool needed to win was to keep their concentration.
“Mignolet has done fantastically well, but I think it will be revisited in the summer”, he added.
“It is one of the most hard places to come because in no game can you feel comfortable”, he told a post-match news conference. But we have been actually.
‘I’m pleased with that but like I say, everybody did theirs (job) today and that’s the important thing when you play away from home – you have to grind out results sometimes’.
It was also Liverpool’s first away win against a Tony Pulis side in eight attempts and Klopp was delighted to leave The Hawthorns with the points.
“It’s been a great season for West Bromwich Albion and West Bromwich Albion supporters”. They have failed to score in four consecutive Premier League matches for the first time since 2003.
When he was asked why the Baggies hadn’t scored in four games, something they haven’t done since 2003, Pulis said: “Missed chances”.
“We know Karius had a few dodgy games, then that change happened and it’s been Mignolet ever since”.
“My one disappointment about our performance was the first 20 minutes of the second half”. We thought that made no sense.
“You can always do better but we learned already in the game”.
Several times in the dying minutes Mignolet resorted to punching clear high West Brom set-pieces or deliveries.
West Brom could have gone ahead 10 minutes later when Matt Phillips picked out Nacer Chadli in the area, but the former Tottenham man miskicked the ball from just a few yards out.
