Jurgen Klopp Rules Out Steven Gerrard Return
Rubin Kazan confirmed starting lineup: Ryzhikov, Kverkvelia, Cotugno, Kambolov, Nabiullin, Carlos Eduardo, Kislyak, Gokdeniz Karadeniz, Georgiov, Devic, Kanunnikov.
Gerrard will train at his former club, Liverpool, during the MLS off-season, although there are no indications that he will suit up again for the Reds in an official capacity, according to multiple reports.
Liverpool boss and ex-Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp wanted to bring Wagner to Merseyside as part of his backroom staff following Wagner’s departure from the German club last week. Liverpool remain relatively injury free, with Dejan Lovren looking to push the often shaky Mamadou Sakho in the back four.
But the North American season has ended, prompting speculation that the 35-year-old Gerrard could be loaned back to the English Premier League giant.
Klopp, though, dampened expectations of a playing return ahead of today’s Europa League game at Rubin Kazan. “All the loan players are going back for a few days I think, that’s fine by us; that’s good”. I said, ‘Stop it, I don’t want to hear any more’. He’s a Liverpool legend, of course. But his contract, as I know, is in the US (until November 2016).
‘But nothing else. Everybody can learn from Stevie, but I am trying to understand. It should be said, however, that Anzhi are a far cry from the days of Samuel Eto’o and Willian, having initiated a fire-sale two years ago which has resulted in the side struggling to maintain top flight status. “He didn’t ask about playing and I don’t have to think about this”. And why wouldn’t Jurgen Klopp want him to come down to the club. But not at this moment. We are in the middle of the season.
Philippe Coutinho of Liverpool FC.
“But we have our targets and that’s the only thing I’m interested in”. “He is an LFC legend and our doors are always open”. He is young enough and healthy enough to train. Wigan Athletic, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur all suffered defeats to Rubin, while Liverpool have won half of their 12 matches against Russian opponents.
After an encouraging start to his Anfield career, Ibe has been something of a peripheral figure this season, even under Klopp’s predecessor Brendan Rodgers, who promoted him to the first team.
