Jury dismissed in Dennis Brantner murder trial
But Brantner was only charged with murder and not the lesser charge. The Reporter Media said the judge re-read his instructions to the jury, and jurors agreed to resume deliberations Wednesday.
A almost three week Fond du Lac County jury trial for a Kenosha man suspected of killing 18-year-old Berit Beck is over.
Earlier on Wednesday, the jury sent a note to Sharpe with questions about the charge of first-degree murder as opposed to reckless homicide.
Jurors sent a note to Fond du Lac Judge Gary Sharpe on Tuesday afternoon that read, “we can not agree to guilty or not guilty”.
The ruling by Fond du Lac County Judge Gary Sharpe came in the third day of deliberations.
Beck was only 18 years old when she left her home in Sturtevant on a trip to Appleton. She was never seen alive again. Her van was found a few days later, and her body was later found in a ditch in Fond du Lac County. Her body was found several weeks later, near Waupun. Officials say Beck bought the kit at Walgreens the day she disappeared.
In 2014, Brantner was questioned and eventually broke down into tears. A detective testified during an earlier hearing that Brantner became a suspect when the state crime lab re-tested previously unidentifiable fingerprints found in Berit Beck’s van and found a match. If I did it, I did it. They don’t say anything to you about whether Mr. Brantner intentionally killed Ms. Beck.
